Satwik and Chirag win the doubles title in the Korea Open Super 500

The team of Satwik and Chirag won the Korea Open Super 500 competition, securing yet another BWF championship after winning the Swiss Open and Indonesia Open competitions.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-90965″ src=”×450-751111-untitled1-11zon.png” alt=”” width=”1650″ height=”990″ srcset=”×450-751111-untitled1-11zon.png 750w,×450-751111-untitled1-11zon-150×90.png 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1650px) 100vw, 1650px” />

In a nail-biting three-game men’s doubles final, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty upset Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, the world’s top-ranked team, 17-21, 21-13, 21-14.

The Indian team had a 2-2 head-to-head record against Asian Games silver medalists Alfian and Ardianto going into the final, but they had recently defeated the Indonesians twice. The Indians started off a bit hesitant since they were down in the first game, but they came back in the last minutes, cutting a 10-19 deficit to six points before losing.

However, they gained momentum in the second game and then controlled the rest of the match to win.

Early on, the Indonesians played fast-paced, flat rallies to take a 4-2 lead. Alfian and Ardianto prevented their adversaries from mounting an assault, which caused the Indians to be pushed back.

As Satwik and Chirag allowed their opponents to lead by seven points at the half, mistakes started to creep in.

The Indonesians moved up to 16-7 as Ardianto slammed one into the center, despite the Indians scoring a few quick points.

The Indonesians increased their lead to 19-11 on another down-the-middle slam from Ardianto. Prior to playing an intense rally that resulted in the Indonesians scoring, Satwik and Chirag won the next three points.

Satwik’s thunderous leap smash reduced the margin to three points, but he missed, giving the Indonesians four game points.

Before Satwik smacked one into the net, the Indians rescued one with Chirag’s cross-court return.

The two couples engaged in some delicious rallies to get the second game off on an even keel. As they began to control the rallies, the Indians increased the intensity and speed of their play.

After a Chirag interception, the Indians took a narrow 6-4 lead, which they held onto until 10-8 when Satwik launched his signature smash.

The Indonesians’ wayward shot gave the Indian team a three-point lead at the interval.

They reached a score of 17-11 thanks to Chirag’s cross-court return from the front court.

Satwik and Chirag quickly collected nine game points. They wasted two until Chirag blasted one through the center to force a third-round showdown.

In the third game, Satwik and Chirag seemed to be in complete control after squeaking out a 9-6 advantage and leading 11-8 at halftime.

Because they were more aggressive, the Indians were able to exert pressure on the top-ranked pair in the world.

After the game resumed, a Chirag interception helped the Indians maintain a 13-10 advantage. Nothing was going their way, so Alfian and Ardianto seemed to be faint shadows.

The flat exchanges were likewise dominated by Satwik and Chirag, and soon the Indians led 18–12. Alfian hit an excellent backhand return, but he blasted the next one into the net, giving the Indians seven match points.

They lost one before winning the next, then they celebrated by breaking out into a gangnam dance.

Satwik and Chirag have amassed a number of victories since their alliance, including the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, the Thomas Cup gold, the bronze medal at the World Championships, and victories in the Super 300 (Syed Modi and Swiss Open), Super 500 (Thailand and India Open), Super 750 (French Open), and Indonesia Open Super 1000.

Six tiers make up the BWF World Tour: World Tour Finals, four Super 1000s, six Super 750s, seven Super 500s, and eleven Super 300s. The BWF Tour Super 100 level is another division of the competition that awards ranking points.
