<p>For those who are unaware, iMessage from Apple has been the subject of a similar examination. The European Commission started looking into whether the Digital Markets Act (DMA) should apply to Apple’s iMessage, Microsoft’s Bing, Edge, and Microsoft Advertising in September. Following disputes between the firms concerning the DMA’s identification of these services as critical platform services, various investigations were conducted.</p>
<p>Large software companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, Meta Platforms, and ByteDance are required under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to make it simple for third-party applications or app stores to be added to their platforms. It aims to make it easier for customers to switch from default programs to those provided by competitors, among other things.</p>
<p>EU Requests User and Competitor Feedback:<br />
The European Commission sent surveys this month asking customers and rivals to assess the importance of Apple’s iMessage and the three services offered by Microsoft (Bing, Edge, and Microsoft Advertising) in contrast to competing offerings. The respondents were asked about specific characteristics of these services on which business clients rely and how they fit into the organizational ecologies. Additionally, the Commission wanted to know how many people utilize these services. The period of time allotted for input was just a few days.</p>
<p>Investigation Timeline: The European Commission intends to complete its investigation within five months, creating the foundation for these internet giants’ future DMA compliance.</p>
